FAQ

Here are a few frequently asked questions to help.  If you any questions related to BYOD, purchasing advise, or need help, please reach out to our IT Department. We are happy to help!

What if I don’t know what device to buy?

There is such a huge range of options that it can be overwhelming and every family has different needs.

Our general advice is to purchase whatever you're comfortable with as a family. Most of our current students are pretty comfortable on a Chromebook and they are affordable and reliable so that's usually a safe option.

If you would like more specific advice based on your situation and your child's interests, send us an email at ict@hope.edu.kh and we'll organise a time to chat.

What if I can’t find a suitable device?

While we've tried not to limit the options too much it's very possible that the options available don't match your own constraints. If that's the case, send us an email at ict@hope.edu.kh and we'll get in touch to discuss the options and work with you to figure out the best option given the tradeoffs.

What if I can’t afford it?

If you can't afford it right now but you expect to be able to soon you can request a short term loan of a device.

If you can't afford one for the foreseeable future, we might be able to provide a longer term loan or connect you with a suitable pre-owned device. Please email us to ask how we can help.

What if my child’s device is broken or stolen?

All students can borrow a device for the day if they forget theirs or don't have access to one. These must be returned at the end of the school day. In the event a device is broken or stolen, we can provide short term loan devices (that can also be taken home) while you figure out a replacement. You can request a short term loan by contacting ict@hope.edu.kh or visit the ICT Office (room S19).

What if I don’t want my student to participate in the BYOD program?

BYOD is part of how we teach and learn at HOPE. Opting is not really an option, however if you have specific concerns about your student's use of or dependence on technology, we'd love to work through those concerns with you. We can discuss options for:
